Mount Elgon National Park is one of Uganda’s most scenic and less-crowded hiking destinations, home to one of the world’s largest extinct volcanic mountains. Located in eastern Uganda along the Kenya border, the park is known for its dramatic waterfalls, ancient caves, montane forests, and rich birdlife. This 3-day safari offers a perfect blend of hiking, nature exploration, and cultural experiences around the beautiful Sipi Falls.
The safari begins with an early morning departure from Entebbe, driving east through Jinja and Mbale while enjoying views of the River Nile, sugarcane plantations, and rolling countryside. Lunch is taken en route before continuing to the Sipi Falls area at the foothills of Mount Elgon. Upon arrival, you check in at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and unwind in the cool mountain atmosphere as you prepare for the adventure ahead. Overnight near Sipi Falls.
After breakfast, you proceed to Mount Elgon National Park for a guided hike through montane forest and bamboo vegetation. The experience includes exploring ancient caves such as Kapkwai, enjoying panoramic viewpoints, and spotting bird species and small primates along the trails. Lunch is enjoyed during or after the hike before returning to the lodge. In the afternoon, take part in a guided community coffee experience around Sipi, learning how locally grown Arabica coffee is processed, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.
After breakfast, enjoy a cultural visit to a nearby Bagisu community to learn about local traditions, daily life, and the famous Imbalu cultural practice, which takes place seasonally. After the visit, begin the return journey to Entebbe with lunch en route, arriving in the evening and bringing your Mount Elgon safari to a memorable close.
